Hospital Photo Shoot with Pearl

Still Pregnant

So I have heard many moms tell me they have experienced this...a definite post-pregnancy low. This morning as I was getting ready Brooke said to me, "Mama, do you have another baby in your tummy?" and told her I did not and tried to explain that it takes some time to get your tummy back to how it used to be and that I wasn't pregnant again. She looked at me and said, "Then you are still pregnant". Yikes...I better hit the gym and go heavy on the sit-ups. There is nothing like an honest, uncensored toddler to point out your insecurities (she also nicely inquired about the zit on my chin while we were in music class today)!

All Smiles

My cheeks hurt from smiling so much today! Dylan started smiling for real and I spend lots of time trying to get him to smile at me and also so I could take a picture. It is one of the best milestones when your little one starts interacting with you. There is something so sweet about an infant's open-mouthed smile. Dylan is such a snuggle bug, and I absolutely adore the little dude. I love when I pick him up and he just immediately cuddles against my chest and calms down. It is an amazing feeling knowing how much a little baby needs and adores you. Part of me wants to freeze him at this age for awhile.

Look Who's Cooing

Today was Dylan's one month check-up with Dr. Hitchcock and it was also the day that he started to "coo".  It is fun to hear him make new noises. He started saying "ahhhh" and Brooke insisted that this was his first word : )

Dylan's appointment with Dr. Hitchcock went well. He is doing great, and growing really fast! He weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces and is in the 10-25th percentile, which is up almost 1.5 pounds in two weeks. He is 21.5 inches and is in the 50th percentile for height. I think we are going to have an average sized baby for once! Dylan has a little baby acne and cradle cap, but his skin looks pretty good for a newborn. He was not a fan of the training nurse practitioner that examined him, but immediately calmed down for "Dr. Bill". We kind of stumbled into seeing him and he is such a great doctor. He is so natural with babies, friendly, and thorough. It helps that he is a father of 5! Dylan's eyes are still blue-gray and now we are starting to get some comments about the red in his hair. Perhaps he will be a red head like his big brother.

Dylan is definitely "waking up". Those first 3-4 weeks were amazing. He was just a sleepy little thing that rarely cried. Now he cries when he is hungry or wants to be held. He loves to be held and this calms him down right away.

Fancy Cheese

Today we went to Board & Brew to have sandwiches for lunch. The kids aren't big sandwich eaters but we deconstruct the sandwich and have them eat parts of it. Dave was trying to get Brooke to eat her slice of cheddar cheese and she said to Dave, "Is this fancy cheese? Because I only eat fancy cheese". Dave looked at me, smiled then rolled his eyes, and said, "This is your fault!"

I love cheese....I mean I LOVE cheese! It is my favorite food and I thought my daughter should be a fan too. There is a fabulous cheese shop in Del Mar that I like to frequent to try new and favorite cheeses. I started taking Brooke there with me when just Carson was in preschool last year. Amazingly from the beginning she loved all cheese that she tried including goat and blue. I loved our little lunch dates to the "fancy cheese" shop for cheese sandwiches on baguette with grapes.  This girl has fancy taste, and I love it : ) She will eat Humboldt Fog over a hamburger any day!
